Maiden victory for Christopher Zöchling

The Austrian Christopher Zöchling claimed the victory in the third round for the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany. It was the very first time for the 26-year-old to take position on the highest step of the winners podium at the victory ceremony. “I can’t put my emotions in words”, the Konrad-Driver grinned like a Cheshire cat after the race. The tremendous team success was completed by Christian Engelhart, who finished third, being the second Konrad-Driver on the podium.

“A huge thank you goes to the whole team for providing me with such a brilliant car. I am overwhelmed about this victory.” Christopher Zöchling’s pleasure about his maiden win in Germany’s fastest one make cup was boundless. Just one year after his debut in the fiercely contested championship the Austrian who lives in Bristol (GBR) eked out the first place in Oschersleben.

Zöchling put the cornerstone for the victory already at the start. From second position in the starting grid the 26-year-old Porsche-Driver could pass pole-setter Pieter Schothorst and took over the lead for a clear light-to-flag victory. “It was no problem to stay in front of Alex Riberas, also when he was really close behind me”, explained the Konrad-Driver after the race. Due to his win, Zöchling made a reasonable progress in the overall standings of the championship. After three races he ranks on second position now, even in points with championship leader Philipp Eng.

Christian Engelhart saw the chequered flag on third position. Through the complete course of 16 race laps the German battled with Nicki Thiim. Although the Dane put on lots of pressure on him, Engelhart had the better end. “First rank for Christopher and third position for me, that’ a superb team achievement, we can really be proud of”, Engelhart was pleased.

Also team manager Franz Konrad appeared to burst with joy. “Our boys were simply untouchable today. I am  especially happy about the maiden victory of Christopher. I am convinced about his great talent since I watched his first race”, says the team boss.

The second race of the weekend in Oschersleben takes place on Sunday, 10.00 am, and will be covered live on porsche.com. To watch the race please click here.
