2nd season victory for Konrad Motorsport

At the season finale of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany in Hockenheim Konrad-Motorsport-Pilot Michael Christensen celebrates a dominant victory in the race on Sunday. Also his team-mate Norbert Siedler finishes the second run as third on the podium.

Already on Saturday morning Konrad-Motorsport-Pilot Michael Christensen sprang a little surprise. In the closest qualifying of the year the Danish driver covered an excellent 2nd position. The gap to pole-sitter Sean Edwards was less than a hundredth of a second. But in the first race on Saturday Christensen suffered from bad luck:  A tire failure on the 450 HP Porsche race car forced the Porsche-Junior to retire and dashed all hopes for a good result.

The hour of Michael Christensen should strike on Sunday. Directly before the last race of the season he profited from pole-sitter Edwards being penalized. Therefore Christensen was starting a race from the top-position of the grid for the very first time. At the start he reacted rapidly and could establish a comfortable gap between him and his opponents. That was the beginning of an impressing performance by the young Dane. From the leading position he controlled the race and celebrated his maiden victory in Germany’s fastest one-make-cup after having completed 18 laps. “It is a great feeling to be on the top of the podium in my very first year in this strong championship,” he reported happily after the race.

His team-mate Norbert Siedler did not have a perfect start into the last weekend of the season. In the qualifying the Austrian achieved only positions ten (Saturday) and six (Sunday), which were not enough to fulfil his own expectations. It went a lot better for the man from Tyrol in the first run on Saturday afternoon. The experienced driver had an outstanding start and improved up to rank six already in the first lap. After 14 laps he crossed the finish line on the fifth place.

Also in the run on Sunday Norbert Siedler showed a strong race. Once again he managed to win many positions at the start. In the famous hairpin-corner he passed the Dane Nicki Thiim with a clever manoeuvre for the third position. To the joy of the spectators the Austrian was part of an exciting battle between him and Klaus Bachler in the last part of the race. “It was a really hard fight but I could defend my position successfully,” he commented afterwards.

The Czech Tomas Pivoda finished the races on the 4,5 kilometres long track on positions 15 and 14. In the final championship standings the rookie-driver covered rank twelve. Team principal Franz Konrad was satisfied with the results of the season finale. “I am extremely happy about Michael Christensen. His increasing performance in the last races was rewarded today,” the Austrian explained. “With his podium-finish Norbert Siedler contributed to an excellent team-result.”

The end of the season finale also means the end of the regular season for Konrad Motorsport. The highlights from the races in Hockenheim can already be watched on monday on German TV-Station N24 at 06:30 p.m. (CET).  To conclude the season the team from Verl (Germany) will participate in the „City Challenge“, a special race event in the Azerbaijanian capital Baku.
