Konrad Motorsport fights a long time for the victory in Monza

At the season’s finale of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Monza Konrad-Motorsport-Pilot Sean Edwards fought a long time for the win. But after a collision between him and the leader he was disqualified. His team-mates Christian Engelhart and Tomas Pivoda finished the last race of the season on positions seven and 13.

The traditional track inside the Royal Park of Monza was the venue for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup’s season finale. Konrad-Motorsport-Spearhead Sean Edwards finished the qualifying at the Italian high-speed-track on the third position. In the closest qualifying of the year the gap to the pole-position was less then a tenth of a second. After he had successfully defended his position at the start he managed to pass Kévin Estre already in the second lap. In the following laps there was an exciting battle between Edwards and the leader Norbert Siedler.

”At this part of the race I had a really good car and was for sure faster than the man in front of me,” Sean Edwards explained afterwards. Again and again he tried to use the slipstream to overtake the Austrian. The Brit saw his chance when his opponent made a mistake two laps before the end. The two had an extremely hard battle in which the cars collided more than once. After the race Edwards was disqualified by the race control. “Siedler and me both fought really hard, but this is part of racing. The penalty is too severe,” Edwards, who finished the championship on position five, said angrily.

His team-mate Christian Engelhart was quite content with the last race of the season. After rank ten in qualifying the German resolved to improve in the race. He showed some exciting battles and crossed the finish line on the seventh place. In the championship’s final result Engelhart covers position eight. “After a season of ups and downs I can live with that,” the 25-year-old said happily. He had finished on the podium three times this year and managed to win the race in Budapest. After ten rounds Engelhart and Edwards claimed the third position in the team standing for Konrad Motorsport.

Tomas Pivoda completed his second guest-start in a row for Konrad Motorsport. The Czech, who had already gained experience at the last race weekend in Spa, also participated in the most popular one-make-cup of the world in Monza. The youngster was happy with position 13 in the race among the strong drivers of the Supercup. „In comparison to last weekend I really improved a lot,” the 21-year-old, who also drives a car of Konrad Motorsport in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, reported.  His team principal Franz Konrad was also satisfied with the achievements of the rookie-driver: “Tomas did not make a single mistake on the challenging track in Monza and showed a nice race. Very good!“

German TV-station “Eurosport” will broadcast the race again on 12th September 2012 at 0:00 AM for those who were not able to follow the exciting season finale in Monza.

The end of the last race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup does website like this not mean the end of the season for Konrad Motorsport. There are still two weekends left for the team in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany. Already at the next weekend season’s races number 14 and 15 will be held at Oschersleben before the final runs will take place in Hockenheim from September 19th to 21st.
