Christensen and Pivoda carry on with upwards trend

The penultimate race weekend of the season became a quite successful matter for the “Young Guns” of the team Konrad Motorsport. Michael Christensen celebrated another top-finish with a sixth rank in the Saturday’s race in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. In the driver standings of the championship the young Dane strengthened his currently seventh position. Team mate Tomáš Pivoda for the fourth time this year enjoyed a top-10-finish.

The Porsche Carrera Cup turns in onto the final straight of the season. The eighth of altogether nine race weekends took place in Oschersleben. With that Michael Christensen’s first year in Germany’s fastest one make cup is almost over. “Having only two races left in 2012 is really unbelievable”, says the Dane. Since the start of the season the learning curve of the 22-year-old points only in one direction – straight to the top. He made reasonable progress from race to race and in the course of the year the young Konrad-Motorport-Driver shone especially with consistency.

The Youngster finished the Saturday’s race at the Oschersleben weekend on sixth position. “That was a satisfying result. It was a quite close battle, but I managed to struggle through”, so Christensen. The rookie crossed the finish line right behind the Poland Robert Lukas. “I had a chance to make a move on him, but due to the fact that he was a guest starter who doesn’t get points, I didn’t take the risk.”

In the second race, which took place on Sunday, the 22-year-old Dane was able to underline his strong performance from the previous day. The mechatronic technician improved to fourth position already, but due to a misunderstanding just ahead of the chequered flag his hopes for another top result didn’t come true. “The race was meant to be finished behind the safety-car. However, in front of me one opponent was slowing down and I thought he had a problem. So I decided to pass him.” The race direction later on punished Christensen with a 30 seconds penalty, which let the youngster dropped back to 15th position.

More reason to rejoice had Tomáš Pivoda. The Czech, who like Christensen goes through his first year in the Supercup, with rank eight celebrated his so far best result in the 2012 season. In a race, which was characterized by numerous collisions and incidents, the rookie managed to stay cool. “It was one of my best races of this year”, the 21-year-old was pleased. “It could have even been enough for seventh position, but unfortunately the safety-car threw a spanner in my plans. Nevertheless I am really happy. Now I am looking forward to the final spurt in Hockenheim, where I want to finish the season with another success.”
