Ups and downs for Konrad Motorsport at Lausitzring

With a podium-result for Christian Engelhart and position seven for Felipe Fernández Laser the weekend started really successful for Konrad Motorsport. Also in the race on Sunday the drivers were in a promising position, until two questionable penalties prevented them from scoring another top-result. In the B-class Rolf Ineichen celebrated the victory in the first race and the second place on Sunday.

The road to Christian Engelhart’s fourth trophy of the season was a hard piece of work: Already after a few laps a thick oil-film covered his windscreen. “The visibility was awful, I had to rely on my feelings completely,” he reported afterwards. Nevertheless the Konrad-Motorsport-Driver showed a flawless performance and crossed the finish line as third with an advantage of more than five seconds. “Under these conditions I am more than satisfied,” he said happily after an exhausting race.

In the race on Sunday his way to the top was interrupted by a questionable penalty. While he was in position five, Engelhart had to drive through the pit-lane because he had been too fast under yellow flags. “I have not seen any yellow flags, therefore I could not brake,” he was unsure about the cause. In the following laps the experienced driver made the best out of the situation and at least secured some important points for the championship with the tenth place. In the overall standings he now covers the third position.

Felipe Fernández Laser lived up to his reputation as the Porsche Carrera Cup’s “Champion of pursuit-races” also at Lausitzring. From his twelfth starting position the man from Hamburg already improved to the seventh place in the first race. He should win even more positions on Sunday: Step by Step he fought his way through the field from starting position 15. After he had improved up to the seventh place, he shared the fate of Christian Engelhart and dropped back to position 13 after a drive-through-penalty. “I did not see any flags as well,” explained the clueless young driver.

His team-mate Rolf Ineichen celebrated another victory. The business man from Switzerland outpaced all competitors in the B-Class in the first race and also impressed with the second place on Sunday. In the overall standings of his class he now covers the first position with a respectable advance, although he did not compete in the race on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife because of a scheduling conflict.

„A weekend with ups and downs,” was the conclusion of team principal Franz Konrad. “On Saturday things went really well for us. Today we showed the same speed, until the penalties for Christian and Felipe cost us many positions.” After seven of in total 17 races his team still covers the second positions in the championship.

Everyone who missed the races at Lausitzring can watch the highlights of the weekend again in “Porsche Carrera Cup Magazin” on German TV-station “n-tv” on Monday at 6:30 CEST.  In two weeks the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup’s third race is on Konrad Motorsport’s schedule in Silverstone. The next two races in the Carrera Cup will be held at Norisring in four weeks time.
