Kuba Giermaziak celebrates first trophy of the year in Monaco

26.05.2013 – At the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup’s season highlight in the Principality of Monaco Kuba Giermaziak finished on position two and thereby claimed the first podium-result of the season. Also in the championship’s overall classification the young Pole now covers a promising second place. In the second VERVA-Porsche his team-mate Patryk Szczerbinski crossed the finish line on position 14.

The event within the framework programme of the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Monaco is not only the most glamorous but also the most challenging race of the season. From the beginning Kuba Giermaziak belonged to the fastest drivers in the 3,3 kilometers long guardrail channel and secured the second starting place in the qualifying on Friday. “Here in Monaco the starting position plays a more important role than on all other circuits, because overtaking is not possible without a mistake of the guy in front of you,” the spearhead of the squad was happy about his good initial position.

As the lights went green on Sunday morning, Giermaziak had a clearly better start than pole-sitter Sean Edwards – but for an attack the rather short way to the first corner was not long enough. In the further course of the race the man from Piaski showed a completely flawless performance and defended his position successfully against Michael Ammermüller in the the last part of race. After 16 laps he crossed the finish line on the second place.

The delight about the first trophy of the season was huge: “A podium finish in Monaco is something really special,” the 22-year-old celebrated after the winner ceremony in the prince’s famous box. “I am really happy with the start of the season.” In the most popular international one make cup’s overall classification he also covers the second place after two of in total nine races.

In the qualifying on Friday his team-mate Patryk Szczerbinski experienced how narrow the gap between the track and the wall is in Monaco: The 19-year-old hit a slippery oil spill and crashed into the barriers. The mechanics worked two night-shifts and built up a completely new chassis for the 460 HP Porsche 911. With the new car Szczerbinski finished the race on the 14th place and thereby secured three additional championship points.

“What a weekend”, summarized Franz Konrad the event in Monaco. “Already in qualifying Kuba Giermaziak has set the cornerstone for a sensational race. Also in the championship standings he is an excellent position.” At the same time he also thanked his team: “The guys Cialis coupon – the best and the… worked incredibly hard and prepared Patryk’s car perfectly again for the race.”

Already at the next weekend the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany’s first foreign race is on Konrad Motorsport’s schedule at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. In the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup there will be a five-week break, until Kuba Giermaziak and Patryk Szczerbinski want to fight for top-results in Silverstone (England) again.
