Another podium success for Klaus Bachler

Klaus Bachler celebrated his second podium finish in a row. In the course of the Italian Grand Prix the Austrian claimed second rank in the race for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. With that, the 23-year-old consolidated his third rank in the driver standings of the championship. Ahead of the final weekend with the double header in Texas, Bachler is one of the three possible contenders for the title win.

“What a great result for us”, Klaus Bachler shines full of joy. “I have to thank the whole team for a superb job. After we had a kind of setback at the beginning of the season, it’s now running quite well for us. We constantly made progress and now we are allowed to celebrate another podium finish again.” After 14 race laps the 23 year-old Porsche-Junior crossed the chequered flag on second rank, only about one second behind race winner Sven Müller.

The corner stone for the podium finish was laid by Bachler already at the start. The Porsche-Junior started from fifth spot in the grid and stormed up to third position already after a few meters. In the second lap of the race the Austrian thrilled the Italian fans with a brilliant overtaking manoeuvre on championship leader Earl Bamber. “At the end of the long start and finish straight I could go alongside and finally pass Earl”, so the Austrian, who then defend the second rank until the end of the race.

Claiming another podium finish, Klaus Bachler received 18 championship points for his credit and consolidated his third rank in the driver standings. With still two remaining races the 23-year-old has even a small chance to win the title. The Porsche driver’s gap to championship leader Earl Bamber is 39 points. “As long as there is life, there’s hope as well. After all the trouble early in the season, we can be proud of what we have achieved.”

His team mates Christian Engelhart and Christopher Zöchling finished the race on positions 12 and 21. The final weekend of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup takes place at the beginning of November, in Austin/Texas. Already earlier this year the team around Franz Konrad is away in the Porsche Carrera Cup again. Germany’s fastest one make cup travels for its next round to the Lausitzring in the Brandenburg region.
