Supercup returns to USA

The Supercup schedule has changed: The final race weekend of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup takes place in the course of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Austin (USA), on November 1st and 2nd. The originally planned double header in Sochi (RUS) has been cancelled. After a break of seven years the championship returns to the United States of America.

For the first time in history a final round for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup takes place in the United States of America. The popular international one make cup will be at the start as an support race in the environment of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Austin/Texas from October 31st to November 2nd. The two originally planned Supercup races in Sochi have been cancelled and replaced by the rounds in the USA. With that, the Supercup after its last race weekend in Europe, on September 7th, will have a break of about seven weeks before it moves to the final stage in the USA. With the race on the “Circuit of the Americas” the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup returns to North America after a break of seven years. In the years 2000 to 2006 the Supercup went through 14 championship races on seven weekends in Indianapolis.

The Circuit of the Americans is a venue for the Formula 1 since 2012 already. The 5.516 kilometres long race track near Austin includes 20 curves and has a drop of 40 meters. The circuit which was built by the German architect Hermann Tilke, belongs to the few race tracks world wide, which are used in counter-clockwise direction. In 2013 two Porsche one make cup races took already place in the course of the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge.
