Christian Engelhart celebrates position three at Lausitzring

The Porsche Carrera Cup’s seventh race weekend was characterized by changing weather conditions. The Konrad-Drivers impressed especially in the first race on Saturday: After overtaking not less than eight cars Christian Engelhart celebrated a podium success, Rolf Ineichen won the B-class and Christopher Zöchling finished on a respectable seventh place.

Usually the foundation for a success in Germany’s fastest one-make-cup is already laid in qualifying – in the hard-fought championship a starting position in the front is seen as a requirement for a top-result. That it is possible in a different way too, was proved by Konrad-Motorsport-Pilot Christian Engelhart in an impressive manner on Saturday. From his eleventh starting position the man from Kösching fought his way to a sensational third position. “To be honest, I did not expect this after the very difficult qualifying,” he showed his happiness with the deserved trophy in his hands.

“The car was really fantastic, although it was the first completely dry session of the weekend – a big thank you to my team, which has given me perfect setup anyway.“ In the last laps Engelhart was even close enough to claim the second position from the Austrian Philipp Eng, but finally settled with the third position. In the wet race on Sunday the 27-year-old finished on position nine. In the overall classification he now covers position two, just twelve points behind leader Michael Ammermüller. “There are still 80 points to get – so everything is still possible,” Christian Engelhart showed his confidence.

Rolf Ineichen was able to celebrate his ninth victory of the season. The man from Switzerland dominated the B-class also at the Lausitzring and won the race on Saturday with a gap of more than 15 seconds. After a short outing into the gravel on Sunday, he claimed the third place in the second race. These results extended his championship lead in the B-class to now 30 points.

Behind the steering wheel of the third green and white Porsche of Konrad Motorsports sits Christopher Zöchling. Also the Austrian impressed with a many overtaking maneuvers in the first race: From starting position 13 the multilingual race driver, who is living in England, improved up to the seventh position. “I am really happy with that. Although I had a contact in the first lap I was able to show a good pace,” he reported afterwards. Also for the eleventh place on Sunday Zöchling received additional championship points. In the overall standings he is now sixth.

Team principal Franz Konrad drew a mixed conclusion after the Lausitzring-weekend. “On Saturday Christian and Christopher both won many positions with an impressive performance. In the second race the results were not as good as the day before, but nevertheless everything is still possible in the championship. Congratulations to Rolf Ineichen for his ninth victory of the season.”

There is no break in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany: Already at the next weekend the next races are being held at the Sachsenring – for the first time within the framework program of the ADAC GT Masters. A special challenge for Konrad-Driver Christian Engelhart, who will participate in both series.
